Dr. Alba Folgueiras González

Patent Attorney Trainee

Alba is currently training to become a Dutch and European patent attorney in the field of Chemistry, with a specific focus on life sciences, particularly pharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology. She possesses a broad understanding of various subjects, including virology, microbiology, biotechnology, synthetic biology, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, vaccinology, and biological chemistry.

Alba holds an MSc in Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Edinburgh, where she specialized in polymer production using engineered bacteria. Prior to joining HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER, Alba was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD fellow at an international pharmaceutical company. Her research focused on the discovery and characterization of novel viruses affecting livestock populations. She earned her PhD in Medicine in 2024, with a thesis entitled « Virus Discovery in Farm Animals: Uncovering Hidden Viral Threats and Their Role in Disease. »

During her research, Alba specialized in metagenomics, diagnostics, vaccine development, and genetic engineering. She has (co-)authored several publications in renowned virology and life science journals.
