Dr. Andrew Lin

Andrew holds a PhD degree in Physics, specialized in String Theory, and a Law degree in both Taiwan (LLB) and in the Netherlands (LLM). He is a Dutch and European Patent Attorney and a representative at the Unified Patent Court (UPC).  

Andrew’s practice focuses on national and international patent litigation, including the coordination of technical aspects of international patent disputes. He has knowledge and experience in various high-tech fields, including computer science, electronics, telecommunications, video and audio coding, online media streaming, electromagnetics and mechanics. Since the launch of the UPC, Andrew has actively participated in several UPC cases handled by HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER.

In addition to his litigation practice, Andrew is also involved in patent prosecution, assisting clients on building patent portfolios and patent drafting.

  • REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
    • Netflix v. Avago: Representing Netflix in patent infringement proceedings brought by Avago in the Netherlands relating to High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), including the coordination of technical analyses.
    • Texas Instruments: Defending Texas Instruments in several UPC proceedings brought by non-practicing entities concerning System-on-Chip (SoC) technology.
    • Philips Electronics: Representing Philips Electronics in a series of patent infringement proceedings in the Netherlands, involving patents related to telecommunications technologies.
    • ASML: Defending ASML in multiple patent infringement proceedings initiated by Nikon, concerning semiconductor lithography technology.
    • Intel v. Mahltig: Representing Intel in patent litigation concerning computer technology. In these proceedings, the District Court invalidated the Dutch part of Mahltig’s European patent and dismissed the requested relief.
    • LED Technologies: Providing patent counseling and managing the development of global patent portfolios for start-ups specializing in LED technologies, including lighting applications and health-related infrared LEDs.
